Dr. Rev. Randolph Newsome, Jr.

Pastor of Round Oak from January 1, 1984-December 31, 2020

​​Rev. Randolph Michael “Randy” Newsome, Jr. 68, of Bowling Green passed Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at his home. Born in Northumberland County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Zelda Ann Williams Newsome and Randolph Michael Newsome, Sr.

 

Randy graduated from Northumberland High School, Bluefield College, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Covenant Seminary. Randy retired after 36 years as the faithful Pastor of Round Oak Baptist Church in Corbin, Virginia. Randy previously served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Centerville, Indiana for 3 ½ years, and served as pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church, Nabb, Indiana while a seminary student. At the time of his retirement from Round Oak, he had the distinction of being the longest serving Baptist Pastor in Caroline County. Randy loved fishing, rabbit hunting, gardening, and loved to play the Banjo. He was a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo. He loved horseback riding and he and his daughter participated in horse shows and competitions throughout the east coast.

 

Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Beth Lowery Newsome; a daughter, Kristy Newsome Ellis (Timothy Ellis, Jr.); a granddaughter, Finley Ann Ellis; a niece Robin Hamilton; a great niece and two great nephews; two great-great nephews and a great-great niece. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Randy’s memory to Round Oak Baptist Church, P. O. Box 129, Corbin, VA 22446.
